Jeremiah 2:12-14

International Standard Version

¹² Heavens, be appalled at this,
    be shocked, be utterly^[a] devastated,”
        declares the Lord.
¹³ “Indeed, my people have committed two evils:
    they have forsaken me, the fountain of living water,^[b]
and they have dug cisterns for themselves,
    broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”

¹⁴ “Is Israel a slave, or was he born a servant?^[c]
    Why then has he become plunder?
